Legal Aid Ontario to restore immigration and refugee services

Posted on: Aug 27, 2019

Further to the federal government's August 12, 2019 announcement of $25.7 million in one‑time funding for immigration and refugee services, Legal Aid Ontario is fully restoring services in these areas for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Beginning August 16, 2019, legal aid coverage for immigration and refugee services will resume at levels offered prior to April 15, 2019, when certain services were suspended.

"This is very good news," says David Field, LAO's President and CEO, "and allows us to restore immigration and refugee services for the remainder of the year. We would like to thank the federal government for this funding."

Message from the President

Happy New Year! We have just started a new decade and naturally this is a time of retrospection and resolution. What have I done? What haven’t I done? What should I do? Of course, these weighty thoughts often shape us at this time of year and, hopefully, we do what we can to foster good challenges throughout
the year; this is easier for some than others. But while we all tend to do this in some way or another for our personal goals and objectives, we don’t always do so for our professional goals and aspirations. What a great time to do so! CONTINUE READING.

Mark Giavedoni, President 2019-2020
