    Full time Wills, Powers of Attorney and Estate Law Clerk in a busy Hamilton and Burlington area law firm. At least three years of experience is preferred. Ability to work within time constraints both collaboratively (with lawyers and law clerks) and independently is required. Knowledge of electronic court filing is required.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Preparation and drafting of wills, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents based on lawyer instructions and firm precedents;
    • Manage the estate administration process, including drafting and preparing applications for Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee, preparing estate accounts, and communicating with beneficiaries, financial institutions, and government agencies;
    • Corresponding and communicating professionally with clients, responding to inquiries and providing status updates; and
    • Assist with document review, and other related duties as required.

    Qualifications needed:

    • Post-secondary education (college diploma/certificate Paralegal, Legal Assistant or Law Clerk);
    • It is preferred that you have at least 3 years experience as a law clerk in the Wills, Powers of Attorney and Estates law;
    • Proficiency in preparing wills, powers of attorney, and probate applications in Ontario;
    • Good knowledge of the Succession Law Reform Act, Substitute Decisions Act, and Estates Act;
    • Experience with estate-specific software is a strong asset;
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and a practice management software;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a client-focused approach;
    • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple files and deadlines;
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
